Dr Karanja's Graduation, Nairobi Golf Club

A JKUAT doctorate deserves JKUAT colours. Blue and gold from the balloon arch to the last napkin fold.

Organic balloon arch in navy, royal blue and yellow framing a white arched backdrop that reads Congratulations Dr Karanja, JKUAT Class of, To God be the Glory, with a graduation cap and scroll motif, set on clipped lawn against greenery

Build the Whole Party Around One Colour Pair

A doctorate is years of work. The family wanted a celebration at Nairobi Golf Club that looked like it had been designed rather than assembled, and they wanted it unmistakably JKUAT.

So we took the university's blue and gold and ran them through every single element: the organic balloon arch on the photo backdrop, royal blue velvet cloths, gold sequin runners, gold napkins, black chair covers banded with yellow sashes, and black and gold valance draping on the marquees. Nothing on the lawn was there by accident.

The one deliberate break is the centrepiece — a traditional decorated gourd with a red ostrich-feather plume on a printed kanga runner. Against all that blue and gold, the red is the only warm thing on the table, which is exactly why every photograph finds it first.

Setting Up at a Members' Club

A club lawn is not a private garden. Different rules, and a much tighter clock.

A Fixed Window

Clubs give you a start time and an end time and they mean both. We build to the window we are given, and we strike the same day rather than leaving a crew to come back.

Leave the Grass Perfect

Manicured club turf is the whole product. Weighted bases instead of driven stakes wherever the venue asks, and the lawn checked over before we sign off and leave.

Members Are Still Around

You are a guest on grounds other people are using. Trucks park where the club says, crews stay in the event footprint, and volume gets agreed with management up front.

Shade Is Not Optional

A midday Nairobi lawn party lives or dies on shade. Peak marquees over the seating, a separate covered gazebo for the buffet so food is never standing in the sun.
