Grace & George at Bustani Garden, Limuru
An evening reception in the Kiambu highlands — draped marquee, fairy lighting throughout, and a blush and silver palette built to look its best after dark.
An Evening Reception, Not an Afternoon One
Grace and George booked Bustani Garden for a reception that would run into the night. That single decision changes the entire design brief.
A garden wedding that finishes at four in the afternoon is built around daylight and greenery. One that runs past sunset is built around light you bring yourself. Every design choice here — the mirrored surfaces, the silver sequin linen, the pale blush and ivory palette, the fairy lights strung the full length of the marquee — exists to catch and multiply artificial light once the sun has gone.
Dark linen and matte finishes look rich at noon and disappear at eight in the evening. Reflective ones do the opposite.
Planning for Limuru
The highlands are beautiful and they are not forgiving. Four things we plan for on every Limuru booking.
It Gets Cold
Limuru sits high and cools off fast once the sun drops. A fully open-sided marquee that felt airy at three o'clock empties out by eight. We plan sides that can be dropped as the evening turns.
Wet Ground
Tea country soil holds water. Flooring goes down under the dance floor and the top table so heels and table legs are not sinking into soft lawn by the second hour.
Lighting Is the Décor
After dark, the fairy lighting and the draping are what guests actually see. We run the canopy lighting first and set the tables to it, rather than the other way round.
The Last Kilometre
Limuru garden venues are close to Nairobi on the map and slower than they look on the day. Our trucks go up early; guest directions and parking get confirmed in advance.
The Setup
Blush, ivory and silver, under a draped and lit marquee.
The Top Table
Mirrored top, ivory tufted seating, and a soft runner of white and dusty blue.
Guest Rounds
Silver sequin linen, peach napkins and geometric centrepieces on chiavari seating.Photographed on site during the evening setup at Bustani Garden, Limuru.
